The Mod Apartment | Oceanside Bedroom | Urban Patio | Elegant Bedroom | Super Chic Den | High Fashion Penthouse
Westcoast Contemporary Office | Southwestern Inspired Townhouse
This Vancouver apartment was taken from a typical space, to an innovative and modern interior. By designing and utilizing space-saving built-ins throughout and combining them with a palette of trendy purples, the space was able to come to life to one that more accurately represented the youthful personality of the clients.
This Deep Cove master bedroom and bath, with a beautiful view of the ocean, was yearning for a sanctuary that could provide a backdrop and resting point to admire the view. Therefore, in designing a continuation of the serenity and calm of the water, Kalu decided to use a soft scheme of green/blues, cream and ocean inspired accessories to achieve balance with the surroundings.
A rare diamond in the rough….a 400 square foot outdoor patio with a view of downtown Vancouver! Seizing every opportunity, Kalu was able to transform this before unused outdoor space, into a year-round living space as an extension of the living room. As a result, it became a space in which the clients could truly entertain guests, and enjoy the mild year-round weather and changing seasons of this beautiful city while still maintaining their privacy.
With the use of soft colors, luxurious fabrics, and the warmth of a fireplace, this spacious apartment's master bedroom was transformed into a soothing and comfortable oasis without compromising the wonderful spacious feeling of the room.
Inspired by the fun and trendy personality of this client, Kalu was excited to use a combination of deep purples and browns, bold graphics, and contrasting whites to create an office space that could inspire anyone to work!
Unobstructed 360 degree views of Vancouver, full-height windows, two floors, vast decks, and a curved and sweeping main iron staircase, this space was ready for the runway! Utilizing exotic zebrano wood millwork, lush chenilles and furs, crisp ivory and gloss black, and chrome details, Kalu dressed-up this penthouse like a high-fashion model. The main objective was to provide style, but minimize the elements to not take focus from the real star; the view!
Set deep into the natural forests and vast lands of Langley, B.C., it was essential that this office mesh with its surroundings. With the environment as the inspiration and setting, Kalu wanted to ensure eco-friendly and sustainable products were incorporated. Also selected for the natural quality of their tone and texture, materials such as bamboo, cherry wood, interface wool carpet tiles, and low-voc paint were used. Overall a space was achieved that reflected both the natural environment while caring for it, and creating a healthy interior for its users.
Utilizing some existing furniture and unique accessories, a strong sense of character was provided in this space. The goal was to achieve an interior reflective and reminiscent of the warm and inviting colors of Mexican culture, herritage, and tradition. Thus using a warm color scheme, and integrating a layered application of textures, Kalu created a space that was reminiscent of a hot winter vacation.
